2011 Winter Meeting Original Communication Winner

Congratulations to Orla Power (WP1), University of Limerick who presented the best Poster Communication entitled A comparison of the insulinotropic and enterogastric response to ingestion of an equivalent quantity of maltodextran and whey protein. She received a cheque for 100.

FHI presentation accepted as 'Hot Topic' in Neuroscience 2011s media materials

Congratulations to Beate Finger (UCC), whose presentation "High-fat diet selectively protects against the effects of chronic social stress in the mouse" (Finger B, Dinan T & Cryan J) was accepted into Neuroscience 2011s media materials as a "Hot Topic". A lay language summary will be made available to the media prior to the annual meeting through a "Hot Topic" database and on site in Neuroscience 2011s press room. Limited copies of the Hot Topics book will be available on a first -come, first- served basis in the press room at the close of the annual meeting on Wed., Nov. 16. Beate was also recently awarded her PhD from University College Cork.

FHI Researcher co-authors important paper published in leading journal Nature Immunology

FHI researcher Professor Philip Newsholme of UCD contributes to research which has discovered a novel pathway for immune-mediated Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study was published on 12th September 2010 in the important journal Nature Immunology and is the result of collaborative research involving scientists in TCD and UCD as well as other institutions in Japan and USA and is co-authored by Prof. Philip Newsholme of UCD Dublin. Prof Newsholme's research links nutritional biochemistry to endocrine, muscle and immune function in diabetes and ageing.
